AMSTERDAM IS A CITY,
, that sells narcotics (cannabis), red light district (prostitutes) and canals (romance).
, that is competing with Rotterdam, although it lost quite a few years ago already.
, where everybody speaks in English.
, where half of its inhabitants are foreigners.
, where art galleries are like underground catacombs. They take you from a little room, seen from a street, to a whole network.
, that is situated in a country where every 1000th person is a designer.
, where you don’t have to pay for accommodation, if you don’t want to – common denominator is ‘squatting’.
, where all basic things needed in life can be found from the streets.
, where the main transportation is about old bicycles.
, where churches are transformed into restaurants, bars, cafes, night-bars, art galleries.
, that makes you schizophrenic.
, that causes claustrophobia.
, that is flat, tolerant, liberal.
, that is like a piece from a fairytale.
, where density could be compared with that of Asian cities.
, that still feels like a village.
, where endless amounts of sandwiches are being eaten every day.
, where it is in to be a vegetarian.
, where local men don’t buy you a drink if you are a woman, because of equal rights for everybody.
, where you meet a dressed up couple in the street after half a year and it comes out that they are not locals but from Russia.
, where there are cats in those endless dark cafes (allegedly they are there because of catching mice).
, that is built from bricks.
, which is being heated with gas ovens.
, where the omnipresent subject is about windows. Curtains are redundant details.
, where everything seems to exist, the only problem could be about finding it.
People living in Amsterdam declare themselves to be the inventors of pancakes, folded rulers, herring, waffles with some caramel in between. These are people, who have some baby-fat on their belly – marks that come because of eating cheese all the time. These are people, who are characterized by word ‘extravert’. These are people, who are making land = islands, but do not know how to make weather yet, because...
Amsterdam is a city where every day it rains. More a downpour than innocent drizzle. Amsterdam is a city, where people go but do not stay. It is a place from where to move on, though it is easy to be stuck.
It is a city, whose place is being taken over by Berlin.
